Discuss how QSEN is dealing with the problems that were originally identified in the book, 'To err is human'. You need not write a report only a summary of what catches your eye as a good idea and what you want to share with your colleagues. Answer the questions as thoroughly and concisely as possible. Discuss how QSEN deals with the problems originally identified in the book, 'To err is human.'
As healthcare workers, patient safety is the priority of nurses. Considering that most people have good intentions, it's puzzling that accidents still happen. It is undeniable that there are surrounding medical errors along with their consequences. However, the problem is not terrible healthcare people but good people working in unsafe systems that must be improved (Hwang et al., 2019). Thus, QSEN competencies were designed to equip nurses to be cautious about patient safety and to grasp the consequences of errors. The goal of this program is to prepare the next generation of nurses to meet the challenge of improving the effectiveness and security of the healthcare systems where they are employed.
Summary of what catches my eye as a good idea
Patient well-being is always the first goal for nurses as medical professionals. No one can deny the existence of medical mistakes or their repercussions. However, the issue is not with bad doctors and nurses, but with excellent ones stuck in unreliable systems that need fixing (Hwang et al., 2019). This is why QSEN skills were developed; they provide nurses with the tools to be vigilant about patient safety and understand the gravity of mistakes. This program aims to prepare the next generation of nurses to meet the challenge of enhancing the quality and safety of the healthcare systems in which they work.
What I want to share with my colleagues
My point, which I want to make clear to my peers, is that mistakes may and do happen in health care, just as they might in any other incredibly complex system that relies on human beings. That is why there are rules in place; nurses should learn to abide by and practice the QSEN competencies because it enables them to set high expectations for themselves when dealing with patients while motivating others to engage in visionary thinking and problem-solving in healthcare systems.
